192.168.31.1 — Xiaomi, Mi & Redmi Router Login

Type http://192.168.31.1 (or http://miwifi.com) while connected to your Xiaomi, Mi, or Redmi router to open its admin page. Here's how to log in, why there's no fixed default password, and how to deal with a Chinese-language firmware.

What is 192.168.31.1?

192.168.31.1 is a private IPv4 address used as the default gateway on Xiaomi routers. Xiaomi ships its Mi Router, Redmi Router, and Mi WiFi mesh products on the 192.168.31.x subnet rather than the more common 192.168.1.x, with the router itself at 192.168.31.1. The same admin page also answers to the friendly hostname miwifi.com. Because it's an RFC 1918 private address, it's only reachable from a device on your own network.

How to log in to 192.168.31.1 — step by step

  1. Connect to the Xiaomi router over its WiFi or by Ethernet, so your device gets a 192.168.31.x address.
  2. Open a browser and type http://192.168.31.1 (or http://miwifi.com) in the address bar, not the search box. Use http://, not https.
  3. Enter the admin password you created during setup. See the note below — there is no fixed factory password.
  4. Manage the router: change the WiFi name/password, view connected devices, set up a guest network or parental controls, and update firmware.

The default password — there isn't a fixed one

Unlike many routers, Xiaomi units don't ship with a printed default like admin. On first setup you create the admin (management) password yourself. It's a separate field from the WiFi key, though many people set them the same. So if you're asked for a password at 192.168.31.1, it's the one set during initial configuration — not a factory default. If nobody remembers it, the only way back in is a factory reset (hold the reset pinhole 8–10 seconds), which lets you set a fresh password but wipes all settings.

If the page is in Chinese

Xiaomi routers built for the Chinese market often run Chinese-only firmware, so both 192.168.31.1 and the Mi WiFi app appear in Chinese. Options: some models offer a language switch in settings; others need global/international firmware flashed to gain English. The simplest route for most people is the Mi Home (Xiaomi Home) app set to an English-speaking region, which presents the same controls in English. Be cautious flashing firmware — using the wrong region build can brick the unit.

"192.168.31.1 not working" — fixes

  • Try the other address: If miwifi.com won't resolve, use the numeric 192.168.31.1, and vice versa.
  • Use http, not https: The admin page is plain HTTP; an HTTPS redirect will fail to connect.
  • Disable VPN / custom DNS: A VPN or ad-blocking DNS can hijack miwifi.com — turn it off while you log in.
  • Wrong subnet: If your device's address isn't 192.168.31.x, the Xiaomi router may be in repeater/access-point mode behind another router that assigns IPs.
  • Use the app: The Mi Home / Mi WiFi app manages the same router without typing the IP.
  • Forgot the password: Reset to defaults with the pinhole, then set a new admin password — this clears your config.

Xiaomi's cheaper models can be CPU-limited at gigabit speeds, so place the router centrally and high up, keep firmware current, and split or merge the bands to suit your devices.
