What is 192.168.3.1?

192.168.3.1 is the default admin (gateway) IP on most Huawei and Honor fixed-line broadband routers. It is a private IPv4 address reachable only from inside your own network. Opening it loads the router admin page, where you set WiFi names and passwords, manage connected devices, configure parental controls, and update firmware.

One thing to get right up front: Huawei splits its addresses by product line. Home broadband routers use 192.168.3.1, while Huawei mobile WiFi (MiFi) and 4G/5G hotspots use 192.168.8.1. If one doesn't load, try the other based on which kind of device you have.

How to log in to 192.168.3.1 — step by step

1. Connect to the router by WiFi or Ethernet. The default WiFi name and key are printed on the label on the base of the router.
2. Open a browser and type http://192.168.3.1 in the address bar (not the search box). Use http://, not https.
3. Enter the admin password from the label, or the one you created at setup. Many models force you to choose a password on first login rather than shipping with admin/admin.
4. Manage the router — WiFi settings, guest network, device list, parental controls, and firmware updates.

Using the HUAWEI AI Life app instead

Huawei and Honor home routers are designed to be managed from the HUAWEI AI Life app (older units use HiLink). Connect your phone to the router's WiFi, open the app, and it finds the router automatically — no IP to type. The app covers setup, guest WiFi with a timer, per-device speed limits, and one-tap parental controls, and it often surfaces firmware updates before the web page does.

"192.168.3.1 not working" — fixes

• Use http, not https: The admin page is served over plain HTTP; an HTTPS auto-upgrade will time out.
• Wrong gateway IP: Run ipconfig on Windows or check System Settings → Network → Details on Mac to read your real Default Gateway. Some models or ISP configs use 192.168.1.1.
• Router in bridge mode: If your Huawei unit sits behind an ISP ONT in bridge mode, the admin IP may differ — check the device label or the AI Life app.
• VPN active: Disconnect any VPN, which can block local subnet access, then retry.
• Forgot the password: Hold the reset pinhole 10+ seconds to restore label defaults — this clears your WiFi settings too.
