How to Share Your WiFi Password (iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows)
iPhone to Android, Android to iPhone, Mac to any device — all four sharing methods, including the QR code approach that works across platforms without showing the password.
iPhone to iPhone / iPad (fastest method)
- Make sure both iPhones have Bluetooth and WiFi enabled, and are within a few feet of each other.
- The person who wants to join opens Settings → WiFi and taps your network name.
- On your iPhone, a popup appears: "Share Your Wi-Fi Password?" with the other person's name. Tap Share Password.
- The other iPhone connects automatically — they never see the password.
Requirements: Both devices must have each other's Apple ID saved in Contacts. Both must have WiFi and Bluetooth on. Both must be signed into an Apple ID. Works between iPhone and Mac too.
iPhone to Android (QR code method)
- On iPhone, go to Settings → WiFi → tap the (i) next to your connected network.
- Tap the QR code icon (appears at the top of the network details page on iOS 16+).
- Show this QR code to the Android user.
- On Android, open the Camera app and point it at the QR code — a notification appears to join the network. Tap it.
No app needed. The Android camera app handles QR code WiFi joining natively on Android 10+.
Android to Android
- Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Internet (or WiFi, depending on Android version).
- Tap the gear icon or the name of your connected WiFi network.
- Tap Share — a QR code appears along with the plain-text password.
- The other person scans the QR code with their camera, or you read them the password shown below the QR code.
On Samsung: Settings → Connections → WiFi → tap your network → tap the QR code icon.
Android to iPhone
- Generate the QR code on Android (steps above).
- On iPhone: open the Camera app and point it at the QR code.
- A notification banner appears: "Join Network [name]". Tap it.
- iPhone connects automatically.
Works on iPhone with iOS 11+ (all modern iPhones).
Mac to any device
- On Mac, open System Settings → Network → WiFi.
- Click the (i) next to your connected network → click Show Password → authenticate with Touch ID or password.
- Read the password to the other person, or use the QR code method below.
Windows to any device
- Click the WiFi icon in the taskbar → click the arrow (>) next to your network name → click Show Wi-Fi password.
- Authenticate if prompted. The password appears in plain text.
- Alternatively: open Command Prompt and run
netsh wlan show profile name="YourNetworkName" key=clear— look for "Key Content" in the output.
Create a QR code for permanent guest access
For guests who visit frequently, create a permanent WiFi QR code to print or display:
- Use a free generator like qifi.org — enter your SSID, password, and security type (WPA2 for most home networks).
- Download and print the QR code. Guests scan it with any smartphone camera to connect instantly.
- Consider using a guest WiFi network for visitors so they're isolated from your main devices.
