Web admin vs the Xfinity app

Xfinity splits management across two places. The Xfinity app (with xFi) handles most daily tasks — renaming Wi-Fi, changing the password, seeing connected devices, pausing a device, and setting parental controls — without typing an IP. The web admin at 10.0.0.1 is where you go for advanced settings the app hides, such as port forwarding, DMZ, and bridge mode. If a setting isn't in the app, it's almost certainly at 10.0.0.1.

Using your own router (bridge mode)

To use your own router behind an Xfinity gateway, log in at 10.0.0.1, open Gateway → At a Glance, and enable Bridge Mode. This turns off the gateway's routing and Wi-Fi so your router handles the network, avoiding double NAT. Note that xFi features stop working in bridge mode — see bridge mode explained for the trade-offs.

Security: do this after first login

• Change the admin password from admin/password to something strong and unique.
• Change the Wi-Fi password if it's still the printed default or was shared widely.
• Use WPA3, or WPA2-AES at minimum — see WPA3 vs WPA2.
• Review connected devices in the app and remove anything you don't recognize.

Troubleshooting: I can't reach 10.0.0.1

1. Wrong network. Confirm you're connected to the Xfinity gateway, not mobile data or a neighbor's network.
2. Already in bridge mode. If the gateway is bridged, it no longer responds at 10.0.0.1 — your own router's IP (often 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1) is the admin page instead.
3. HTTP vs HTTPS. Use http://10.0.0.1; an HTTPS auto-upgrade can fail.
4. VPN running. Local addresses don't route through a VPN — disconnect it first.
5. Wrong IP. On Windows run ipconfig and read Default Gateway; on macOS check System Settings → Network → Details → TCP/IP.
