Verizon Fios Router Lights: White, Blue, Yellow & Red

Run a Speed Test

A healthy Verizon Fios router shows a steady white light. The moment it turns blue, yellow, or red — or starts blinking — the connection has changed. This guide decodes every light on the Fios Router (G3100), Fios Home Router (CR1000A), and older Quantum Gateway, and gives the exact order to fix the ones that mean trouble.

The One-Second Answer

  • Solid white — online and working. Nothing to do.
  • Blinking white — booting up. Normal for the first few minutes.
  • Blue — pairing mode (an extender or device), not an error.
  • Yellow — no internet connection. Check the ONT and reboot.
  • Red — a fault: no connection, overheating, or hardware failure.

Verizon's current routers — the Fios Router (G3100) and Fios Home Router (CR1000A / CR1000B) — use a single color-changing light on the front, so the color carries all the meaning. The older Fios Quantum Gateway (G1100) and Actiontec MI424WR use a row of individual lights instead, covered further down. All of them reach their admin page at 192.168.1.1.

Fios Quantum Gateway (G1100) & Actiontec — Multiple Lights

Older Fios gateways don't use a single color light. Instead they show a small row of labelled lights, and the important ones are:

LightStateMeaning
PowerSolid white/greenRouter has power and has booted
Internet / WAN (globe)Solid white/greenConnected to the Fios internet service
Internet / WAN (globe)RedNo internet connection — the key "offline" light
Wireless / Wi-FiSolidWi-Fi is on and broadcasting
Wireless / Wi-FiOffWi-Fi radio is disabled

On these units a red globe/Internet light is the equivalent of yellow/red on the newer routers — it means no connection to Verizon.

Fixing a Fios Router That Won't Go Solid White

Fios routers connect to the fiber ONT (Optical Network Terminal), so both the router and the ONT matter. Work through these in order:

  1. Check for an outage. Open the My Fios app or verizon.com to see if an outage is reported in your area.
  2. Reboot the router. Unplug it for 30 seconds and plug it back in, or use Restart Router in the My Fios app. Allow up to 5 minutes to return to solid white.
  3. Check the ONT connection. Make sure the Ethernet (or coax, on older setups) cable between the ONT and the router's WAN port is firmly seated. The ONT also needs power — on battery-backup ONTs, check the backup unit.
  4. Power cycle the ONT if needed. If yellow persists, the ONT may need a reboot. Some ONTs have their own power; others are fed by a battery backup unit you can power cycle.
  5. Confirm airflow for a red light. A red light can mean overheating — make sure the router is upright, unblocked, and not warm to the touch.
  6. Factory reset as a last resort. Hold the reset pinhole for about 15 seconds. This erases your custom Wi-Fi name and password — read the factory reset guide first.
  7. Call Verizon. If it won't go white after reboots and the ONT is healthy, the router or ONT may need replacing.

Common Fios Light Scenarios

Yellow light that won't clear

Yellow is "no internet to Verizon." Reboot the router, then the ONT, and confirm their cable is seated. If it stays yellow with no reported outage, it's a Verizon-side line or ONT issue to report.

Solid white but devices have no internet

If the router is white but nothing loads, the problem is downstream — Wi-Fi, DNS, or one device. See Wi-Fi connected but no internet.

Light is off but the router works

Fios routers let you dim or disable the front light on a schedule (a nice feature for bedrooms). A dark router that still provides internet is usually just the light turned off in settings — check the router's admin page or the My Fios app.

Blue light that won't stop

Blue is pairing mode. If it's stuck, press the pairing/Wi-Fi button once to cancel, or reboot. It should return to solid white.

Frequently Asked Questions

What color should my Fios router light be?

Solid white — that means it's online and working normally. Blue is pairing, yellow is no internet, and red is a fault.

Why is my Fios router yellow?

Yellow means power but no internet connection to Verizon. Reboot the router, check the cable from the ONT, and look for a Fios outage. It usually points upstream to the ONT or line.

What does a blue light on a Fios router mean?

Pairing mode — blinking blue while pairing a device/extender, solid blue when it succeeds. It returns to white shortly. It's not an error.

Why is my Fios router red?

Red is a fault: no connection, overheating, or hardware failure. Reboot, ensure airflow, and confirm the ONT has power. Persistent red usually means Verizon needs to replace the router.
