1. Connect to the router's network — you must be on Wi-Fi or Ethernet directly to this router, not a guest network or a VPN.
2. Open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.1. If that does not load, try the IP address directly: 192.168.1.1.

Security: the first thing to do after logging in

Default router passwords are in public databases. Leaving them unchanged is the most common way home networks get compromised. The first three things to change:

• Admin password — a unique strong password, ideally from a password manager
• Wi-Fi password — a separate strong password; never reuse the admin one
• Firmware update — check for and apply the latest firmware; most consumer routers ship with known-vulnerable firmware from the factory

Troubleshooting: I can't get to the admin page

1. Wrong network. Confirm your device is connected to this specific router's Wi-Fi (not a neighbor's, not mobile data).
2. Wrong IP. The default may have been changed. On Windows, run ipconfig in Command Prompt and look for "Default Gateway". On macOS, System Settings → Network → Details → TCP/IP → Router.
3. VPN running. Local IPs do not route through a VPN tunnel — disconnect the VPN first.
4. HTTPS vs HTTP. Some routers only respond on http://, not https://. Try both.
5. Factory reset. Hold the reset button (usually a recessed button on the back) for 10–30 seconds. The router restarts and the original default credentials will apply again.
